The Inspired By Berklee summer programme will give you a taste of Berklee—the preeminent institute of contemporary music and the performing arts—at the truly majestic Inspired School Reddam House located in Wokingham, Berkshire (35 miles West of Central London).
For two weeks, you will be immersed in creative and engaging sessions with instructors (comprised of Berklee instructors and alumni) and guest artists that focus on the art of songwriting, music production and performance. The programme will feature special presentations on electronic music, sound design and creative entrepreneurship.
The Inspired By Berklee Summer Programme is recommended for ages 12 to 16. Do not miss out on this life-changing opportunity!
CORE MUSICIANSHIP:
All students will learn to use contemporary harmony to enhance your performance, improvisation, comping (accompanying), and writing skills.
INSTRUMENTAL AND/OR VOCAL TECHNIQUE:
You will participate in group lessons and classes to develop your instrumental and/or vocal skills in order to gain insights into practice techniques and improvisation.
ENSEMBLES:
You will perform in student groups in a variety of styles in order to apply the skills you learned throughout the programme, culminating in a final concert.
Instructors and special guest artists will present master classes on the topics of composition, arranging, and songwriting. You will work in a helpful, noncritical environment with instructors who are world-renowned for their knowledge, teaching skills, and empathy with students.
The Programme has three areas of focus:
I. SONG WRITING:
In this elective module you can explore the shape of a song, the melody, lyrics and chord progression. You may start from scratch on your own, co-write with a fellow student, or work from your current original songs to enhance your songwriting capabilities.
II. THE MUSICAL MINDSET:
This session introduces students to the fundamentals of how a creative artist works, relates, acts, creates, iterates, and adapts. This programme covers the fundamental similarities between being an artist and thinking entrepreneurially, and develops students’ entrepreneurial capacities by building on their existing creative instincts such as collaboration, improvisation, the ability to observe, learning by failing, and the discipline of practice.
III. PRODUCTION:
This elective is designed so you can explore concepts, philosophy and tools vital for a develop successful productions. We will explore the considerations to take into account when making decisions as a producer, as well as during post-production and mixing.
The Inspired By Berklee programme is recommended for students aged 12 to 16. Eligible students should have been playing or studying music for two years and will be required to submit links to videos or audio demonstrating their musical abilities.
Workshops, lessons and masterclasses will take place on weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. Inspired By Berklee may host evening jam-sessions and open mic sessions to allow students to take the stage and apply the skills they have acquired.
