GOLD DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARDS AT THE PALACE

29 November 2017

It was a pleasure to attend St. James's palace this week to see Rachel, Nicholas and Natasha receiving their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards from the Earl of Wessex.

It is a real privilege to hear from the young people about the resilience and determination they showed to complete the challenge and see their pride in being recognised in such a meaningful way. The DofE Awards take real commitment and it is a pleasure to be an accredited centre to support our students to make the most of this amazing opportunity.

The highlight of the morning was hearing from one of the Gold Award winners about her personal journey. Hope explained to us that she has Asperger's and that social interaction is extremely difficult for her. She described the journey that she had been on in completing the three Award challenges and not only the amount of soggy boots but also the remarkable way that the groups of young people she had worked with had bonded and helped her to integrate by accepting who she is and valuing her for it.

A tour of the place followed the drinks reception and finally during the presentation of the awards, an opportunity to chat to the Earl of Wessex and to explain a little bit about Reddam House Berkshire and our sister school's around the world!
