INTRODUCING DR MIKE MILNER, HEAD OF SENIOR SCHOOL

21 June 2017

I am delighted to be joining Reddam House Berkshire in September. For the past four years I have been running a state school academy trust and before that I was the academic deputy head at the trust's sponsor Wellington College.

I'm originally from the Wirral peninsula in north west England, but people say that I've lost all traces of my accent! I left that part of the world when I started university, spending the next eight years at Oxford. I studied Biochemistry for my first degree and then I completed a PhD in molecular genetics. To be more precise, I was researching sexual reproduction in mushrooms which always causes some amusement.

I started my teaching career at Westminster School and I overlapped in my time there with Dr Stephen Spurr. We moved to Berkshire in 2008 and have lived in and around the area since then. My wife, Haydee, works as an accountant for Deloitte in Reading. We have four children and three of them will be starting at Reddam House in September (into Years 2, 7 and 9). My eldest is currently at Brighton University.

One of my more recent interests has been politics. I have been watching recent political events with interest and I hope to bring some of that to Reddam House. I believe that it's vital for young people to have an understanding of how the country runs and how we engage with other countries. We live in interesting times.

I am very much looking forward to meeting you all.
