ISA NATIONAL ATHLETICS FINALS

19 June 2017

Four very excited and nervous Reddam pupils travelled to Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, the home of British Athletics, on Monday to compete in the ISA national athletics finals representing London West. Three of the pupils had won their round at the Regional Championships previously and Matt had been selected on submitted times as he couldn’t complete at the regionals due to a GCSE examination.

The stadium itself is very impressive and it is where Diamond League athletics takes place and hopefully the base of Birmingham’s bid for the Commonwealth games. Relishing the fantastic facilities and opportunities all the pupils excelled on the day as they all had an extremely professional attitude towards the competition. Ellen led off in the Long jump where she won a bronze for a 4.50m jump and then Georgia and Harriet both won the High Jump with 1.35m and 1.45m respectively. Matt, despite ‘struggling for motivation’, smashed the field in the 100m to equal the championship record of 11.20 secs, despite not being allowed to use blocks.

All the pupils not only competed fabulously but also were a pleasure to be with all day so many congratulations and extremely well done to these four extremely talented individuals.
