Chosen in the spring term of Year 9, a broad range of subjects is on offer to give a curriculum which accentuates personal enquiry and independent study, as well as appealing to the unique strengths and ambitions of each student.
All pupils study Maths, English (Language and Literature), Physics, Chemistry and Biology at GCSE. In addition pupils choose four further subjects including the EBacc subjects: Computer Science, History, Geography, French or Spanish; and the open choices of Art and Design, Drama, Dance, Physical Education, Media Studies, Business Studies and Music.
A Levels provide an intensive and specialist education in a focused range of subjects. All students at Reddam House Berkshire start the Sixth Form studying four subjects of their choice, which they will study for a minimum of a term. It is expected that the majority of students will pursue just three subjects after the first term of Year 12.
It is important that students are enthused by their chosen subjects and these will allow students to fulfil their ambitions in gaining a place at their chosen University in a degree course they want to study. Offered subjects include the more traditional ‘facilitating subjects’ such as English Literature, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Geography, French, Spanish and Computer Science. In addition, in keeping with the goal of developing the whole individual, practical subjects such as Art and Design, Drama, Dance, Physical Education and Music are offered. We are also able to offer some popular additional choices, which currently include Economics, Business Studies, Psychology and BTEC Sport. Our A Level choices are reviewed every year in light of our cohort’s strengths and ambitions, with new A Levels added when the demand arises.
The Extended Project Qualification is strongly encouraged at Reddam House Berkshire as it offers academic extension for students and unrivalled opportunities to produce a single piece of work of their own showing evidence of planning, preparation, research and independent working. Recognised and highly valued by universities, the EPQ is considered as significant evidence of a student’s readiness for university. The interesting EPQ subject matter chosen by students is useful and additional information, not only for a university statement, but also for a CV and job interview.
